About Gussie
Social and Professional: I live in this ward where I was born raised and educated. I took early retirement from my post as Shetland's Depute Director of Social Work, then managed Shetland Fisheries Training Association before entering local politics. I was elected as SIC Counsellor for Lerwick South Central ward in 1999.
Family: Wife ,Elizabeth. Two children and two grand children
Hobbies and pastimes: Music, music, music and boats! I have a very keen interest in traditional music and co-host BBC Radio Shetland's Catgut and Ivory program.
I teach and play the highland bagpipe , you may see me at the various festivals holding down a tune!
My interest in music extends to most other art forms and I am also Vice Chairman of Shetland Arts.
I love the sea and am a keen sailor, boat owner and sea angler.
I participate in Up Helly A every year ,twice in the Jarl Squad
I strongly support the principle of volunteer community service and am currently Chairman of the Shetland Council of Social Service which supports the various voluntary groups based at Market House in Lerwick.
